Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli feels that being switched on at every moment of the game is crucial while facing a high-quality side like Pakistan in the mega-events. The Men in Blue is all set to take on the Babar Azam-led side in their Group A match in Pallekele on Saturday.
India and Pakistan will be one of the favourites to win the continental event. Team India will rely on the prolific Indian batter Virat Kohli to come good against the arch-rivals Pakistan, as he holds a brilliant record against the Men in Green in the big tournaments producing some match-winning performances for the team.
During a discussion with Star Sports, Virat Kohli admitted that bowling has been the strength of the Pakistan team, as they were having a valuable impact for their side, and believes that he needs to be at his absolute best to take on the arch-rivals Pakistan.
“I feel bowling is their strength. And they’ve got some really impactful bowlers that can change the course of the game anytime based on their skill set. So, you have to be at your absolute best to face them.”
“I only try to understand how I can better my game. Every day, every practice session, every year, every season, this is what has helped me play this well for so long and to perform for my team,” Virat Kohli said.
Pakistan has one of the most lethal bowling attacks in world cricket, as they have got Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Shaheen Afridi in the pace bowling, with all-rounders Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz taking the spin bowling duty in the team and these players have got the skillset to win the games single-handedly for their side in forthcoming mega-events.
I Don’t Think You Can Perform Consistently Without That Mindset… – Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli feels that mindset is very important to perform consistently at the highest level and believes that hard work is very important to reach certain excellence in the game and said that he strives hard to get better each day, trying to make the team win in the big games.
”I don’t think you can perform consistently without that mindset because if your performance is your only goal, then you can be satisfied and stop working hard. There is no limit to it.”
”There is no set achievement that if you reach a certain stage, you’ve reached excellence. I think I strive for betterment every day, so that is a better word to use, and yes, performance obviously becomes a by-product because your mindset is ‘How do I make my team win from this position?” Virat Kohli added.
The former Indian skipper has played some match-winning knocks for India over the last few years. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli’s MCG heroics helped India to secure a thrilling win over Pakistan, as the Men in Blue came from nowhere to chase down the total in the final over and the 34-year-old will look to continue his fine form going into the Asia Cup 2023.
