Former Indian World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir is known for being involved in on-field and off-field controversies during his playing days. The former Indian opener is yet again seen involved in an incident with a certain section of fans during the Asia Cup 2023.

Gautam Gambhir, who’s is currently a Member of Parliament and is also a part of the Star Sports commentary team covering the continental event in Sri Lanka. The left-handed opener played an important role in Team India’s victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup respectively.

Purportedly during India’s game against Nepal, a video of Gautam Gambhir making an inappropriate gesture towards certain fans was circulated and many speculated that the former KKR skipper had shown his middle finger in anger at the chants of the Indian batting maestro Kohli with whom he had some altercation during the IPL 2023.

Taking his Twitter account, Gautam Gambhir clarified his gesture towards the fans on the ground, as he revealed that anti-India slogans were used by certain people during the break for which he reacted in that way.

“A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.

Not everything is as it seems. Any Indian would react how I did to the kind of slogans used against our nation. I love our players & I love my country,” he posted on X.

It remains unclear what happened during the incident, as few audio clips were circulated with fans chanting ‘Kohli, Kohli’ for which he reacted in that manner. Gambhir took to his social media account to clarify the issue stating that he loves all the Indian players.

Gambhir is known for his statement regarding the greats of the game with whom he didn’t enjoy a good camaraderie. He has also made several fiery statements to go along with his on-field incidents against some of the greatest players in the game, including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers in the past.

Coming into the game, India secured a dominating 10-wicket victory over Nepal in a rain-truncated game and the Rohit Sharma side will be hoping to improve their fielding and bowling going into the Super 4 stage of the tournament as they were completely sloppy on the field against Nepal.
