Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is hopeful of experienced Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah playing a few games for the team before the much-awaited ODI World Cup in India. The 29-year-old has not played any form of competitive since September 2022.

The Indian team selectors and management are extremely cautious with the fitness of the Indian Speedster, as his form will be crucial for the Indian team going into the mega event later this year. According to various reports, Bumrah is making good progress and may very well be at his peak fitness when he returns to the blues.

Shedding light on the Indian pacer’s return, Rohit Sharma believes that Bumrah’s experience will be crucial for the team ongoing into the World Cup but is not sure about his return to the team during the Ireland tour and asserted that he needs to play more matches to achieve full fitness and revealed that the management is in constant touch with NCA about his recovery.

“He (Bumrah) has loads of experience and that experience will be crucial for us, He is coming back from a long injury and I don’t know whether he will play in the Ireland T20Is. But we will try to give him as much game time as possible before the World Cup.”

“When you’re returning from such a big injury, you don’t have that match practice and match fitness. So the more he plays, the better it is for himself as well as the team. We are in constant touch with the NCA and he looks good at the moment,” Rohit Sharma said.

Jasprit Bumrah’s progress is good news for the Indian team as the experience of the players will be handy for the Indian team going into the World Cup. This is good news for the Indian team fans, especially with important events like the Asia Cup 2023 and the World Cup 2023 coming up.

Rohit Sharma feels that experience is a key factor for any team going into the big events but injuries to the big match players can halt the chances of the team and said that the Indian team also has been dealing with injuries and reckons that the team tries to identify the replacements and give them enough number of opportunities to the perform for the team.

“You need experience when you go into big tournaments. But when there are injuries, you just don’t know what you can do about it.

“Quite a few players are injured from our team but we try to identify players who are going to play in the World Cup and give them as many matches as possible so that they get the experience. Along with focusing on the XI, we need to focus on other 15-20 players too because anyone can get injured,” Rohit Sharma added

Since India’s victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy, India has advanced to the ODI World Cup semifinals in 2015, the T20 World Cup final in 2016, the ODI World Cup final in 2019, and the 2021 and 2023 WTC Final but could not go one step further in the big tournaments.
