Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has revealed that Indian team management looks at the bigger picture indicating that the experimentations may continue in the forthcoming games to get their plans clear going into the much anticipated Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 respectively.

India opted to rest their senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as they gave a chance to fringe Indian players in the 2nd ODI against the West Indies. However, the Indian middle-order batters could not make an impact with the bat as they were bundled out at 181 runs in the 2nd ODI after being 90-1 at one stage.

Speaking to the media after the game against the West Indies, Rahul Dravid said with injuries to several key players, the team wants to look at the bigger picture of players who can contribute to the team in the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. He reckons that they cannot look too much into every single game going forward.

“I think we will always look at the bigger picture. To be very honest with you, at this stage in the cycle with the Asia Cup and World Cup coming up, and the injuries we have, we have to look at the big picture. We have to look at things like that. We can’t get worried about every single game and every single series. If we do that, I think that will be a mistake,” Rahul Dravid said.

Team India has struggled with a spate of injuries in recent months, which include Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Prasidh Krishna, as the team management is trying to find a few new players, who can be backups in the India squad for the ODI World Cup later this year.

Suryakumar Yadav Is Also Learning About ODI Cricket – Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid said that they are no doubt about the ability of Suryakumar Yadav, as he performed exceedingly well in the T20 format of the game, admitting that he hasn’t shown prowess in ODI cricket and reckons that he hasn’t played much ODI cricket before coming into the Indian setup, which probably would have made it tough for him.

“I think Surya is a really good player. There is no doubt about it. His performances have shown that especially in T20 cricket and even in domestic cricket. Unfortunately, I think he will be the first one to address that his ODI numbers have probably not been up to the high standards that he has set in the T20, but he is also learning about ODI cricket,” Rahul Dravid added.

The number one T20I batter in the world failed to capitalise on the opportunity provided to him in the ODI format. Suryakumar Yadav has scored only 2 half-centuries in the 25 matches, he has played so far in ODIs with a poor average of 23.8 and will look to make an impact for India in the final ODI against West Indies.
