Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been vocal about their criticisms regarding the performance of the Indian players and said that they don’t focus on the outside noise involving team performances and individual performance. The comments came after Virat Kohli scored his first overseas century in the last five years.

The Indian batting maestro became the first-ever player in the game’s history to score a hundred on the 500th game for the country. Virat Kohli has shown excellent composure and temperament against West Indies to score his first overseas hundred in the last five years.

Speaking to the media ahead of the 1st ODI series against West Indies, Rohit Sharma said that they don’t focus too much on the outside noise in the team and reckons that the team wants to focus on the individual performances on the team and wants the team to focus upcoming three ODI games to give themselves a chance to play their role to perfection.

“Look I have answered this question a number of times. We don’t focus too much on what is been said on the outside as they don’t know what conversations we have within the team and we would like to keep it that way. Our focus remains on how to get the best out of every individual on the team and how to help the team win games and series. Now our focus is on the three one-dayers and giving players chances so I would want to keep myself involved with that,” Rohit Sharma said.

Virat Kohli has been one of the greatest batters of this era as he scored runs all around the globe and established himself as one of the modern-day greats in cricket Post 2019, Virat Kohli’s form in International Cricket has dipped a bit, as he struggled to get going in all three formats of the games which sparked a wide range of criticism on the ability to play at the same level.

We Have So Many Options Be It Batters Or Bowlers – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma understands a more number of players are fighting out for a spot in the team for the ODI World Cup and admitted that it is difficult as the captain and coach to select the right ones for the team and reckons that they look to players who can play few specific roles for the team.

“It’s certainly a challenge because a number of players are fighting for a few spots. We have so many options be it batters or bowlers. So it is difficult for a captain and coach but it is just not me who goes through this as other teams also have to do this. What we see is who can perfectly fit the role that we are looking for. We look for those players who can fill the holes in the team by performing in the specific role,” Rohit Sharma added.

Some positions in the side have already been claimed in the Playing 11 such as by captain Rohit Sharma, an all-rounder’s slot by Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, and a slot in the middle-order by Virat Kohli whereas few spots in the team will be grabbed during the West Indies tour and Asia Cup 2023.
