IND vs WI: If Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Get Going, India Has A Very Strong Chance – Herschelle Gibbs Picks Favourites For ODI World Cup

Former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs feels that conditions won’t play a major role in the ODI World Cup later this year, as most of the overseas players have an ample amount of experience playing in the Indian Premier League over the years and believes the Bumrah come back to the team will improve India’ chances in the mega event in the home soil.

All eyes will be on the Indian team as players and fans will be desperate expecting the Men in Blue to end their long wait for an ICC title. Indian team has failed to do well in ICC competitions in recent times including their failure in the 2023 WTC final and have not won a global tournament since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

Speaking to Timesnownews, Herschelle Gibbs believes that India will be a neutral venue for most of the nations, as the overseas players have played enough amount of cricket in sub-continental conditions playing International and franchise teams and reckons that the tournament will be wide open one with India starting as slight favourites to the title.

“I don’t think the conditions will play a huge part because the IPL has made it a neutral territory for everybody. Everyone’s used to playing in sub-continental conditions. India will have more pressure playing at home, but that’s their issue. It’s going to be wide open, but they are, of course, favourites,” he added.

“Bumrah coming back will be a huge added advantage. He’s a wonderful bowler, but he’s way short of match practice because he’s been injured for so long, but if Virat and Rohit get going, India has a very strong chance,” Herschelle Gibbs said.

Jasprit Bumrah is expected to make a comeback after a long-standing injury during the Asia Cup 2023 and will be leading the pace attack going into the ODI World Cup later this year, as he could play a pivotal role for the Indian team bowling with the new ball and old ball leading the Indian bowling attack in the marquee event.

“I think I always said that we need to get into the final. Never mind the semifinal we need to get into the final. The day we get into the final we may win the World Cup,” Herschelle Gibbs added.

South Africa will begin their quest for their first-ever World Cup title on October 7 against the Qualifier team in Delhi and they will look to do well in the Indian soil under the leadership of Temba Bavuma as they solid batters and bowlers in the team.
