Former Indian all-rounder, Irfan Pathan has backed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh for his selection in Team India, as Rinku has performed well so far in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. While the 25-year-old left-handed batter smashed 5 sixes against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last over to win the game for the two-time champions.
Whereas in the last clash of Nitish Rana-led KKR, Rinku scored his first IPL fifty and remained not out for 58*(31), eventually the home side was unable to chase down the target of 229 runs, and KKR lost against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 23 runs.

Irfan Pathan feels Indian selectors can now put their faith in Rinku Singh-
“Selectors want to see two things; is this batter a good fielder? He’s a gun fielder. Is his first-class average good? He has an average of 60 (59.89) in forty games. He played brilliantly in Vijay Hazare Trophy last year, batted at a strike rate of 100. He also played well in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
“He only needed one thing; good performances in IPL. Now, selectors can have faith in his abilities when he takes on the opposition players at international level,” said the Ex-Indian cricketer.

Rinku Singh has been a standout performer in this edition of IPL 2023, playing two match-winning knocks for the two-time champions KKR against Royal Challengers Bangalore and GT. The 25-year-old played an unbeaten knock of 58 runs off 31 balls but ended up on the losing side against SRH.
While the southpaw batter plays for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, he made his first-class debut for his state team in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season. Whereas he has been involved in controversy as Singh was given a three-month suspension by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as he took part in the Ramadan T20 Tournament in Abu Dhabi without seeking prior permission to play from the Indian cricketing board.
“In the time to come, I strongly believe that (Rinku earning India call-up),” said Pathan.
Rinku Singh has scored 156 runs in four games, with a whopping strike rate of 175.28. So far, for the two-time champions, he produced arguably the greatest finish in the history of the cash-rich league, with a blazing last-ball finish over defending champions, in which he hit five sixes in the last over when 29 runs were required to win the game.
While, former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag lauded Rinku Singh for his exceptional composure at the end of the innings to finish off the innings for KKR. The former Indian opener compared him with MS Dhoni in terms of finishing skills.
