Watch: Highlights As Afghanistan Beat Pakistan In 1st T20I To Create History

Afghanistan

Afghanistan, on Friday (March 24), created history as they beat heavyweights Pakistan for the first time in T20Is. The Rashid Khan-led side beat the Men in Green in the first T20I in Sharjah to take the lead in the three-match series.

Afghanistan came up with a stunning display with the ball to restrict Pakistan to a modest total of 92 for 9 in the allotted 20 overs. It did not take Pakistan long to realise that their decision of batting first after winning the toss was wrong. Afghanistan bowlers never let the opposition off the hook as Pakistan huffed and puffed to a below par total.

Not a single player from Pakistan could cross the 20-run mark during the terrible batting display. Imad Wasim’s 18 runs were the best effort with the bat from the Men in Green. For Afghanistan, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi picked up 2 wickets each. Rashid Khan had a good outing with the ball too, conceding just 15 runs for 1 wicket in 4 overs.

Afghanistan chase down the total:

Afghanistan’s chase did not start on a good note. After openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran added 23 runs in 4 overs for the first wicket, debutant Ihsanullah threatened to spoil the party for them by taking 2 wickets in his first over in international cricket.

He first sent back Zadran for 9 before dismissing Gulbadin Naib for a duck. In the very next over, Naseem Shah dismissed Gurbaz to leave the opposition reeling at 27 for 3 from 23 for 0. Wasim soon joined the party too by dismissing Karim Janat to reduce Afghanistan to 45 for 4 in the 10th over.

However, experienced Nabi and Najibullah Zadran soon steadied the ship and went on to share an unbeaten partnership of 53 runs to take their team home for a historic win.

Here are the highlights of the match.
