This Is A Kind Of Pressure Tactic: BCCI Hits Back At PCB Over Report Suggesting Pakistan Will Play WC Games In Bangladesh

India vs Pakistan

The BCCI has hit back at their Pakistan counterpart after recent reports suggesting that Pakistan might play their ICC 2023 World Cup games in Bangladesh.

A recent report from a leading news outlet stated that during ICC’s recent board meeting in Dubai, PCB informally discussed the possibility of Pakistan playing their World Cup games in Bangladesh in response to India’s decision of playing their Asia Cup 2023 games outside Pakistan.

Pakistan have the hosting rights for the Asia Cup this year but the BCCI has made it clear that they won’t visit the country owing to the political tension between the two nations. And recently reports emerged that Pakistan might end hosting the competition although India will play their games outside the country. The final will also reportedly take place outside Pakistan if India qualify for it.

Following those reports related to the Asia Cup, a recent report stated that Pakistan were not willing to visit India either this year for the World Cup. India will be hosting the 50-over World Cup as sole hosts for the very first time. In the past, they had co-hosted the tournament.

BCCI hits back at PCB:

While only time will tell how things unfold as far as the Asia Cup and the World Cup is concerned, the BCCI has made its stance crystal clear as of now. PTI quoted a BCCI official as saying that the recent ‘pressure tactic’ applied by the PCB won’t work. The official even said that the entire Asia Cup might be shifted out of Pakistan.

“We understand that this is a kind of pressure tactic applied by PCB because of the Asia Cup issue. But let me tell you, ultimately, Asia Cup will also be played in UAE or Qatar and probably Pakistan will also have to play its matches in one of these countries,” the BCCI source told PTI.

“As far as Pakistan playing its Asia Cup games in Pakistan is concerned, the budget for the tournament is passed by the Asian Cricket Council. If ACC says that it’s not a commercially viable proposition to hold Asia Cup in two countries, how can Pakistan play its games at home. ACC, for all you know, might not pass the budget,” another board source said.

Earlier, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman and BCCI secretary Jay Shah had already made it clear that India was not travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup and that it will be held at a neutral venue.
