They Will Be In Trouble: Aaron Finch Fires Warning To Gujarat Titans Ahead Of IPL 2023

Aaron Finch

Former Australia skipper Aaron Finch has fired a timely reminder to Gujarat Titans ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The defending champions will begin their title defence this week when the sixteenth edition of the tournament gets underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

They will begin their campaign against heavyweights Chennai Super Kings on Friday (March 31). So far, only two teams – Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians – have managed to defend their titles and win back-to-back IPL trophies.

And while time will tell how things turn out for Titans in the coming days, Aaron Finch has come up with a warning for them. The former Australia opener has said that the Gujarat-based outfit will be in a lot of trouble if their star opener Shubman Gill fails to fire at the top of the order.

Aaron Finch’s warning for Gujarat Titans:

Analysing the reigning IPL champions’ strength and weakness ahead of IPL 2023, Aaron Finch said that the only weakness that Gujarat Titans have is that they are heavily reliant on Gill in the top order. While he agreed that the outfit have a strong middle-order, he stated that it could hurt the team if the middle-order batsmen are compelled to bat early in the innings.

“I think a concern area for Gujarat Titans will be their top-order if Shubman Gill does not fire. Shubman Gill is the X-factor for the team. We know how freely he can score, he is such a damaging player and when he gets in, he goes really big. If he fires, their middle order will function very well and they will be very hard to beat,” Aaron Finch said on Star Sports.

“They have got a lot of firepower and a lot of experience in that middle order and a huge amount of power, but if they get in too early, they will be in trouble,” he added.

Speaking further, he said that South Africa star David Miller will be the player to watch out for this season. Miller has been in sensational form for quite some time now. In the last IPL, he played a crucial role in the middle-order for Titans, scoring 481 runs at an average of 68.71.

“The player to watch out this year for Gujarat Titans will be David Miller,” Finch said.

Talking about Titans’ strength, Finch opined that their pace contingent is the biggest strength and said that they had the variety to suit any surface in the country.

“The biggest strength for Gujarat Titans is the depth in their fast bowling, and their experience. They can juggle around the players to find the perfect combination based on different surfaces,” Finch said.
