PCB Set To Hire Morne Morkel, Mickey Arthur Among Others For Pakistan’s New Coaching Setup

Morne Morkel

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly set to rope in former South Africa pacer Morne Morkel and batsman Andrew Puttick as Pakistan men team’s bowling and batting coach respectively. The Pakistani board has also decided to re-hire former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur as a consultant.

Arthur is currently serving as the head coach of Derbyshire. ESPNcricinfo has reported that the PCB will setup the coaching group in such a way that Arthur would play the role of the team director remotely. The former Australia and South Africa head coach was also assigned to form the coaching panel that consists of all overseas personnel.

Among other changes to Pakistan’s coaching staff, their former fielding coach Grant Bradburn will be the head coach while Cliffe Deacon (physiotherapist) and Drikus Saaiman (strength and conditioning) will continue with their jobs.

Pakistan’s new coaching setup:

Morne Morkel will link up with Pakistan only after his stint with IPL outfit Lucknow Super Giants. The South Africa great will be serving as Lucknow’s bowling coach for the upcoming edition of IPL that will finish on May 28. The former pacer is not new to coaching, having previously served as a coach for Namibia during the 2022 T20 World Cup.

At present, he is the bowling coach with Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 League. He also had a stint with the New Zealand women’s team during the T20 World Cup in South Africa. On the other hand, Puttick will link up with the Pakistan squad next month. The 42-year old, who played just one international match for his country, has good coaching experience too.

Talking about Bradburn, the former New Zealand cricketer was associated with Pakistan cricket for more than three years before resigning in 2021. He first served as Pakistan’s fielding coach before serving as the head of coaches’ education at PCB’s high-performance centre till late 2021.

As far as Arthur is concerned, he will be working remotely. The report stated that he would visit Lahore next month and will return before the ODI World Cup in a preparation camp. He won’t be traveling with the Pakistan team to Sri Lanka nor for any bilateral series.
