Australia T20 stars are expected to be part of IPL 2021 once it resumes in UAE in September this year. According to a report, barring a few who have already stated their unavailability for the 2nd phase of IPL to be played in UAE, the IPL franchises will not have to ponder and sweat over the absence of their overseas stars, especially from Australia.
Most Australian players, including all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, are likely to participate in the second phase of IPL 2021 when the tournament resumes in UAE. The likes of Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Marcus Stoinis, and Daniel Sams, all of who had pulled out of the West Indies tour recently, will turn up for their respective franchises when the T20 league resumes.
Australia Limited Overs Skipper Aaron Finch: Australian Players Would Find It Difficult To Play The 2nd Phase Of IPL 2021 Based On The Workload
The news is a welcome relief to the IPL franchises a few days after Australia white-ball captain Aaron Finch had said that it will be hard for the players who have skipped international duty citing various reasons to be part of the T20 league which will hold its remaining matches in UAE due to the coronavirus situation in India.
“This is only my personal opinion, I think they would find it hard to justify going back and playing that second half of the IPL purely based on the workload coming up with a T20 World Cup then a huge home summer,” Finch told SEN WA while speaking to Adam Gilchrist.
“It’s a tough situation everyone has been put in but personally I’d find it hard to do that knowing how challenging it is mentally and on your family.”
The likes of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Daniel Sams among others may be available for the remainder of IPL 2021. The country’s seven top cricketers including the likes of David Warner, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Marcus Stoinis, and Daniel Sams had pulled out from the upcoming West Indies series for various reasons, mostly bio-bubble fatigue and also said that they won’t be visiting Bangladesh if that tour is confirmed.
The absence of the top players meant veteran Dan Christian, Big Bash League stars Ben McDermott, Wes Agar, and Riley Meredith was picked in the squad alongside Adam Zampa and Andrew Tye, who both played in IPL 2021 but escaped India midway when bio bubble breaches occurred as a result of which the competition was called off due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Not all Australians who played in the IPL 2021 opted out, as Riley Meredith, Moises Henriques, Dan Christian, and Jason Behrendorff have been included in the squad to West Indies and Bangladesh.
Australian Cricketer Pat Cummins Is Unavailable For IPL 2021 2nd Phase
Last month as many as seven top Australia cricketers had withdrawn from the tours of West Indies and Bangladesh. The bilateral matches provided a golden opportunity for the cricketers to lay their claim and fine-tune their skills in preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup slated to be played later this year.
As for Pat Cummins, who had made himself unavailable for the T20 league well in advance, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) would have to do without the services of their most expensive player for the remaining games of the season.
What also makes it prudent for overseas players to not skip IPL is the fact that the T20 World Cup will also be held in UAE meaning it will provide them with a perfect platform to get ready for the marquee event which is expected to start a few days after the league ends.
Meanwhile, BCCI is reportedly also in talks with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to secure permission for its players to be part of the extravagant T20 league. The final word on the status of overseas participants will be known by mid of July.
