Brad Hogg, former Australian spinner believes that the franchise Delhi Capitals will miss Shreyas Iyer’s expertise this season as it was under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership last season that DC had made it to the final for the first time.
Rishabh Pant is expected to play a big role this season for DC as he was appointed skipper.

Rishabh Pant Appointed Skipper Instead Of Injured Shreyas Iyer
Delhi Capitals received a major blow before the start of Indian Premier League 2021 with their captain Shreyas Iyer suffering an elbow injury in the first ODI against England earlier this month, and getting ruled out from the tournament. DC has named the dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant as Shreyas Iyer’s replacement to lead the team this season.

Rishabh Pant has been in superb form across all international formats at the moment, and his skills with the bat were on display in the recently-concluded home series against England.
When the previous IPL ended in late 2020, his career was in shambles. His lack of runs saw him dropped from both the short format squads to Australia and Wriddhiman Saha squeezed his way into the eleven for the first Test in Adelaide too. But in the space of just four months and before the 2021 edition of the IPL, Rishabh Pant turned it all around with excellent performances in the last 3 Tests against Australia and Test and ODI series against England.
Brad Hogg: Delhi Capitals Not Having Shreyas Iyer Is One Of The 2 Hurdles The Other Being Constantly Losing To Mumbai Indians
Shreyas Iyer, a veteran of 79 IPL matches has amassed exactly 2200 runs averaging 31.42. He led last season’s runner-up Delhi Capitals from the front scoring 519 runs from 17 appearances averaging 34.6.
“The big hurdle for Delhi Capitals last season was the Mumbai Indians. They played them four times, and they lost four times. It is a hurdle they need to clear this season,” Brad Hogg said in the latest video uploaded on his Youtube channel, Brad Hogg’s Vlog.
“The other hurdle for DC is that they don’t have Shreyas Iyer. They are going to miss his leadership, they are going to miss his stability in the middle-order. But him not being there will also affect the balance of this team,” Brad Hogg added.

Although the franchise also has other captainship options in opener Shikhar Dhawan, off-spin all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, and Australian batsman Steve Smith, who was picked this year from the auction pool, Rishabh Pant was named the skipper.
DC had made it to the final last season where they lost to Mumbai Indians who went on to win their fifth title by successfully defending their title. The franchise will open their campaign on April 10th this year when they face off against Chennai Super Kings.
The 31-year-old Steve Smith who was released by Rajasthan Royals (RR), was acquired by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.2 crore at the IPL auctions, last week. Steve Smith, Umesh Yadav (Rs 1 crore), Ripal Patel (Rs 20 lakh), Vishnu Vinod (Rs 20 lakh), Manimaran Siddharth (Rs 20 lakh), Lukman Meriwala (Rs 20 lakh) were some of the players added to their squad and the latest acquisitions will boost the team. Experienced T20 players Tom Curran and Sam Billings were bought for Rs 5.25 crore and Rs 2 crore respectively.
